Staying healthy requires more than good health care, especially during extreme heat events. If you or a family member are in need of a place to stay cool, check out these immediate options near you:
If you don’t have access to transportation, our partners may be able to help you get to a cooling shelter. Please call them directly at Ride to Care: 855-321-4899. TriMet is offering free rides to cooling centers.
Beginning July 25, 2022, and for the extent of the emergency declaration, TriMet will not turn away anyone riding to a cool place who cannot afford to pay fare. TriMet asks riders to let their driver know they are headed to a cool place.
When riding transit during extreme heat, riders will want to plan extra time and check trimet.org/alerts before traveling, as there may be heat-related delays to service.
Anyone who needs transportation support to a cool space can also dial 211.
People at the highest risk for heat-related illness may qualify for additional resources - this includes members with conditions such as heart disease, mental illness, and respiratory illness.
In most cases, applying for and receiving resources takes a few weeks.
